Michael Nyman est indéniablement un des artistes anglais les plus célèbres et innovants : pianiste, chef d’orchestre, musicologue, écrivain, photographe, réalisateur… Il est connu pour avoir appliqué le terme « minimalisme » en musique, composé de nombreuses musiques de film pour Peter Greenaway notamment et La Leçon de piano de Jane Campion.IEn 1976 un orchestre hétéroclite avec instruments traditionnels et modernes pour jouer des chants vénitiens de Il Campiello de l'italien Goldoni. Un an plus tard, l’orchestre abandonne les instruments traditionnels pour ne garder que les modernes et le Michael Nyman band voit le jour ! 40 ans après, le groupe célèbre cet anniversaire en sillonnant l’Europe pour fait entendre quelques unes des plus belles partitions de musiques de film de son fondateur. C'est donc un événement de le voir investir la salle Pleyel le 23 novembre prochain
